Homecoming!

We learned last night that EZ (wait, that won't do), 'Liza is doing so well that she can maybe come home TODAY! So, Janet is in right now getting started with the "car seat challenge", where they sit the baby in the seat for a couple of hours and monitor her vitals to make sure she can handle the change. This would be, of course, several days earlier than the most optimistic previous speculation. She's a strong one - "feisty" they say at the NICU. I'm a little tremulous about having AJ interact with her - she's so dang small, and AJ is not what one might call "gentle" in most respects. We've been practicing soft touching and being very careful. I think he'll do alright.

I wish the little newborn cries would remain so soft and precious. AJ has been having night terrors almost every night. Last night Janet and I were in the basement watching some tv after AJ was in bed when we heard a blood-curdling scream and frantic running about. (We apologize to the neighbors, who surely must think we implement some kind of torture as part of our bedtime routine.) When we ran up to find him he was clearly terrified by whatever it was he was "seeing", and practically launched into my arms. He settled quickly afterward, and we're grateful that he doesn't remember whatever it is he sees that is so frightening.

Janet's mom will be coming to spend a few days with us next week. We're so grateful that things worked out that she could come help and hope it will not adversely affect her new position at work.

Thank you for the comments! We sure have a spread of friends and family - Brazil, Denmark, Latvia, and all over the U.S. The world sure has gotten smaller.
